Appalachian State Button Bar.
The Alumni Association at Appalachian State University wanted a creative way to bring fans together and build excitement around the start of football season. Their vision was an interactive activation that encouraged conversation, connection, and school spirit. TK Promotions partnered with the team to bring that vision to life through a custom “Button Bar” experience that invited fans to engage, connect, and celebrate their Mountaineer pride.
Initial Challenge.
Appalachian State University’s Alumni Association set out to create an activation that would encourage engagement, drive attendance, and generate excitement around Fan Fest, the university-wide tailgate kicking off football season. The goal was to give alumni and fans a reason to stop by, connect with one another, and build school spirit through a meaningful and memorable experience.
The Solution.
TK Promotions partnered with Appalachian State to develop the Button Bar, an interactive display featuring 17 unique button designs and a clear reusable zipper bag for collecting favorites. Fans could choose buttons that reflected their school pride, including a popular series of “Beat” buttons that sparked conversations about upcoming rival games. The Button Bar offered a creative way for the Alumni Association to engage attendees, encourage interaction, and strengthen connections within the Mountaineer community.
The Outcome of the Project.
The activation exceeded expectations. More than 1,000 alumni and fans visited the Alumni tent throughout the event, far surpassing the 600 RSVPs. The buttons and bags were in such high demand that supplies nearly ran out. Even the university chancellor stopped by to take part. The Button Bar helped App State deliver a highly successful Fan Fest experience that elevated engagement and created lasting alumni connections.
